Holiday is here! This is a regular event held by Pelangi Bangsa School for children in Bandung. In 2017, we were having the 8th Holiday Learning Club with Farm as the theme. In Holiday Learning Club (HLC) 8 on 10 to 14 July 2017, children have opportunity to explore their interests as well as learn new things.

In this five-day-HLC, the participants were given various activities. Since the participants rarely knew each other, we began the first day by introducing ourselves. Then we planted beansprout, which would be harvested on the very last day. We continued our activity by playing throwing rings to bottles and balloons to an object on the tree. It was really fun. While having snack, we listened to a story told by a teacher from Pelangi Bangsa School. The last activity we did was cooking fried rice which we could bring home and shared with our parents. And before going home, we had to make a doodle diary of what we have done on each day.

On day two, we visited Little Farmers to learn about plants and animals. We saw farmers planting carrots, then we harvested the ready-to-harvest carrots. Besides, we also harvested some other vegetables and fruits. Then we walked around to see some animals and feed them. We had a chance to feed the rabbits and cows. Some friends who were afraid to feed the cows at first, but then we all enjoyed it. At the end of the session in Little Farmers, we were asked to make a circle and there were some rabbits in the middle. We had to catch the rabbit if we wanted to bring it home. Each of us was allowed to bring only one rabbit and promised to take a good care of it later on at home. Then we headed back to school and made our doodle diary for the second day.

On day three, our activities were all done at Pelangi Bangsa School. We began our day with art and craft activity. We created a chicken from a paper plate and windmill. It was quite hard at first, but the teachers were very helpful. The next activity was Treasure Hunt! I love to find treasures. The treasure was golden eggs. We had to compete and find as many golden eggs as possible to win. The eggs were spread all over the school, not only inside but also the garden around the school. After that, we cooked choco-banana. But the teachers did not allow us to eat it at school. We had to bring it home and asked permission from our parents if we were allowed to eat chocolate. We ended today with watering our bean sprout and making doodle diary.

We could not wait for day four and five! On day four, we were going to visit Jendela Alam. We could ride a horse, catch fish, and chase ducks. We brought the fish we have caught home. It was the most fun day for us. The next day, we were excited yet sad because it would be the last day of HLC 8. We harvested our bean sprout, washed it, and cooked it. We made healthy spring roll (lunpia) which, again, we should bring home and shared with our parents. As the closing, we had a chance to perform dancing, wushu, and story telling in front of our parents. Yes, we have practiced dancing and wushu for four days without our parents knowing about it. We were glad to see our parents' expression. They were proud of us that we could dance and do wushu movements well.

Those are our activities for five days in Holiday Learning Club 8 held by Pelangi Bangsa School. We couldn't wait for the next Holiday Learning Club! (JP)
